about

This is a song of unknown origin. While sorting through the many tapes my father left behind, I found a recording my father made of himself practicing. The session ended with him singing
this melody with the words "Hey La O Stado Fa Ye", accompanying himself on bass.

Ever since I first heard the tune the melody has stuck with me. Perhaps because it was so surprising to hear my father sing in some unknown tongue, or because the melody has such a folk-like, almost universal quality. I recorded this version of the song earlier this year with Kenny Wollesen on drums.

I'm releasing it today, November 28th, 2021 to mark what would have been my father's 70th birthday.

Please listen, download, and share as you wish. If you'd like to make a donation for the music, consider making a donation to the Jazz Foundation of America in my father's name.
